JAW DROP. I didn't see half of the things coming in this book! The story is well developed and the backstory is well explained, but is still mysterious - I'm anxiously awaiting the sequel! I devoured the entire book in less than two days, and a week later, I'm still reeling from it! I look forward to everything Bianca Scardoni has in store for us in the future!

I really, REALLY want to punch someone in the face right now. That being said, this book is amazing. I was a little thrown off at first by the descriptive verbiage- it seemed a little grandiose to me at the beginning- but soon, the feel of it swept me away into this world of magical and mythical beings mixed with high school drama. The story is well developed and well-written with very few typos (not enough to even blink an eye at, which is rare in self published books). The characters are mysterious, yet believable. There a twists and turns aplenty and I found myself reading ravenously to find out what was going to happen next.Back to the face punching. Oh my dear God in heaven, I never saw that coming. I am usually very, very good at predicting plot twists, but that....that left me screaming expletives that made me glad my kids weren't home. My heart is broken. Like seriously, thousand pieces on the floor broken. I am angry and yes, I know these are fictional characters in a fictional story but I feel very betrayed. And that, my friends, is how you know you've read an excellent book. When hours later, it still affects you and you can't stop thinking about it. Do yourself a favor and don't pass this one up.

I don't normally write reviews. It's hard to put into words how I feel about a book when I'm done. So bare with me.I have read the first 3 books, so my review is for them all. No spoilers, I promise.I'm not sure what drew me to this series, but I'm glad it did. While it can be a bit predictable at times (I'm also someone who can spoil any movie or show 10 minutes into it), it is still an amazing journey. The best books, in my opinion, aren't the ones with proper grammar and punctuation, but the ones where the author takes you on a journey with the characters. You feel what they feel. Your heart starts beating quicker at the same moment the character's does. The stories that have you on the edge of your seat. The ones you can't quite put down, and you stay up until 4:00am so you can finish it. Those are the best books, and this is one of them. I read all 3 books in a few days.I definitely recommend the series. As with all books, give it a few chapters to get going. By the end, you will be fully submersed into Hollow Hills.

For $0.99 this was an alright read. I polished it off in about five hours in one sitting and didn't have to drag myself to the end or anything. It's rather casual. Nothing especially thought-provoking or demanding in terms of its plot or language. But I wasn't exactly impressed by it and the slew of five-star reviews certainly made me have high expectations, so I was disappointed with what I'd gotten. So what didn't work for me? Well, first off, there's about twenty cliches within the first 30% of the book that just left a bad taste in my mouth for the remainder of the book: supernatural attack is the spark that sets everything in motion, girl from a sunny state moves to cold/rainy place to start life over with a relative who has secrets, male lead is hot and then cold and then hot and cold again leading to conflicting feelings, girl is somehow "special" but not just special but Special Special, and then hot/crazy ex of main love interest has nothing going for her except to pine for Mr. Brooding Hot Lead and vow to destroy the lead girl for existing, etc., etc., etc. You get the picture. I sort of rolled my eyes because this baseline plot formula has been seen and done in so many books. Outside of that, this book is mostly a set up book that takes over 100 pages to really do anything and even then the action and plot projection is minimal. Mostly this book is centered around a few incidents strung together with some interactions with Trace, Dominic, and Gabriel, lacking much of anything else and without any clear goal. I didn't really get a sense of what the major plot is (is it romance? taking hold of her destiny? saving the world? stopping someone from doing something?) I don't know what book #2 and the rest of the series is going to be seeking to accomplish outside of reclaiming an amulet and maybe romance. I'm just not sure. In a way, the story doesn't seem to have a goal in mind and therefore it lacks a point, to be frank. Maybe we'll get some more antagonist "this is the point of the story, the problem, the conflict, the hoped-for resolution" based plot in the next book, but frankly my interest isn't especially piqued. I just have a vague curiosity about Trace and if he was sincere or lying or how the relationship between him and Jemma plays out, though with the "insta-love" thing going on I'm not really sure I even want to know more. I honestly feel like we should have gotten more in book #1 in terms of set up and revealing so we get an idea of the overall plot that will be further explored in the next books. The baseline idea we have seemed pretty interesting, but somehow the execution just wasn't there. I think perhaps the author wanted to dedicate more time to the story unfolding things slowly so we're all kept in the dark wondering about things so there's a reason to keep reading, but this was done at the expense of the reader having something to fall back on in terms of knowledge and something to keep them centered when reading and not drifting around in a collection of unimportant events. We aren't given quite enough to really get a firm grasp about what's going on and what this whole literary universe is about. More time should have been dealt to things that weren't just Trace being weirdly broody then helpful then cold and then angry and then sort of sweet before starting again. Some positives about this book are that it looks to be very well edited with no mistakes that were evident to me and it had decent language. The author can clearly write, but I just wasn't really moved by her story. It wasn't a bad book, you understand, it just wasn't anything special in my eyes and more or less it was just an okay read, something casual that I decided to try for a dollar. I might look into book #2, I might not. I wanted to like it more, but it just wasn't meant to be.

I am in love with this series. From the moment I read the sample, I knew I had to read the whole thing. So, I did. In less than a day. I am so excited to move onto the next installment! The characters are really brought to life without going too much into any specific details about them physically or otherwise, which I love. Scardoni gives us just enough info to get a general sense, but as a reader, I love having the ability to envision the characters without too much influence. It makes it more personal in a sense, and as a fellow indie author, it's my favorite part. The only aspect I had an issue with... Well, I won't give anything away, but I felt as though Jemma could have been a little more upset and reproachful of Dominic after what happened. It felt as though she merely accepted it. BUT with that being said, five stars all around! The ending threw me for a loop.

The first page had me locked in. The author makes you think and puts you in a position of understanding the characters before you even know that. There are literally so many deceitful twists and turns that it's hard to know who has the right intentions or not. Those you start to trust you learn not to trust them.I love how this book has been spun and it's different then any other series I have read. I immediately purchased the second book and I am excited to see where this one takes me.
